Well, here it is.
A lot of people with a much better understanding of the science involved have reached a consensus, and it seems there's no one left who knows what he's talking about who disagrees.
I've read a lot of pieces on this that say we shouldn't take this as a signal to give up. Still, I find it hard to resist the temptation to let my mind become unhinged. Besides the potential for worldwide catastrophe... well, those who know me well know how much I utterly despise warmth. I've always looked forward to winter the way most people do to summer, and I absolutely love snow, even though it tends to cause major problems when it actually graces the lowlands of the Pacific Northwest.
The idea, though, that soon there may never be a real winter ever again... dear god, that terrifies me. The thought of never feeling cold again... it makes me want to shrivel up and die like a beached jellyfish.
I think we'll adapt. Humans are usually pretty good at survival, when the chips are down. I just feel very, very sad at all the beautiful parts of this world we're going to lose.

Date: 2007-02-03 01:12 am (UTC)I do think that there will always be cold places, though, it just might not be something that will get delivered to your door whether you want it or not. You might have to go seeking it, and move to a higher elevation, or to a higher latitude, as lousy as it might have to be to do so.
