Kipling.

I've never especially cared for the man, though I'll readily admit that he has some very nice turns of phrase; he always seemed a bit too committed to the imperial project for my liking.

Oh, wow, this is synergistic. "Everytime" just came on LaunchCast. Janet Jackson really deserves so much better than she's gotten. I mean, being embarrassed on national tv by Justin Timberlake? Oy.

So anyway, a Kipling excerpt was in this Orwell essay, one of five we had to read for Fred's class today, and the last two lines of this poem are:

"Down to Gehenna or up to the Throne,
He travels the fastest who travels alone."

I used to believe that. Hell, in all honesty I still do... but it's also worth considering that speed is not always of the essence.

Apparently the de-icing of my heart proceeds apace.
